Irenaeus and Water Baptism



Irenaeus was a church leader of the second century A.D., serving as bishop of Lyons from around 177 to his death around 202. He was the most respected official of the church of the second century after perhaps only Ignatius, who was bishop of Smyrna earlier in the century. Irenaeus, through his writings, left us much of the prevailing view of water baptism in his day.
