Text: John 4:35-38

Synopsis: For some, it is all too easy to make excuses for a lack of evangelism. Jesus declared that the fields are white unto harvest, so a weak harvest is never a valid excuse. He also stated in Luke 11:23-26 that whoever is not with Him in gathering (evangelism) is against Him and a “scatterer.” In the same context, He describes the demonic spirit that returns to a cleansed person with seven worse than himself. This negative “spirit of scattering” is a hindrance to the work of God and reaching the lost through evangelism.

Is It I?

Text: Matthew 26:20-28

Synopsis: Over and over again the Bible speaks of the need to examine ourselves. One thing that separates great men and women of God from those who never reach their potential is the ability to engage in self introspection. All too many people blame problems in their lives on their circumstances or others around them, and this attitude is often found in the church as well. Few people are honest enough to admit that they are the problem when they fail God or when it comes to problems within the church. Are we praying, or are we complaining about the lack of revival in the church? Are we a daily witness, or do we complain about the lack of new converts?

Text: Matthew 17:14-21

Synopsis: A man came to Jesus requesting help for his son, who he called a “lunatick” in that he often fell into the fire and into the water. His experience is typical of that of the person who is away from God, in that they are often not in their “right mind” and therefore often find themselves burned by people and circumstances and drowning in their situation.

Text: Hebrews 5:12

Synopsis: In the academic world, students attend college for a period of time after which they usually leave academia to enter the workforce. In other words, they apply what they have learned in the classroom. All too often, however, Christians spend years and years sitting on church pews, learning how to live the Christian life and how to be a witness to others, yet many never move beyond this level into actually going into the world and applying what they have learned.

One Rock at a Time

Text: Jude 1:22

Synopsis: Jesus gave His disciples power to move mountains, but He did not say that the mountain would always be removed instantly. Sometimes mountains in our lives are moved one rock at a time. Just as one rock may not seem like much, making a difference in a single individual’s life doesn’t always seem like a great accomplishment, yet Jesus focused His ministry on changing individuals, not crowds. Those individuals went on to change other individuals, and so on.
