Broken by the Potter

Text: Jeremiah 18:1-6, 19:1-11

Synopsis: Jeremiah 18:1-6 is a beautiful and oft-preached illustration of how the potter can remake a vessel that is marred in his hands while on the wheel. But what about the vessel that is broken after leaving the wheel? Is there any hope for a broken vessel?

The Spirit of Deep Sleep

Text: Isaiah 29:10, Jeremiah 35:5-19

Synopsis: The sons of Jonadab were taught by their father to be nomads in Babylon to prevent assimilation into a pagan society. But in saying they were giving it all when in fact they were giving only a portion, they were guilty of lying to the Holy Ghost. The sin was so grevious that they were struck dead on the spot.

Why are our prayers sometimes ineffective?

Prayers fail (or seem to be ineffective) for a variety of reasons. Let’s take a look at a few possible causes:

1. We fail to approach God properly through praise.

Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

There is a proper way to approach God, and that is with thanksgiving and praise. The person who approaches Him with a “me-first” or unthankful attitude is unlikely to gain an audience with Him.
